District-wide Interactive Whiteboard Initiative

The Tower Foundation is devoting its fundraising efforts for 2007-2008 towards installing state-of-the-art interactive whiteboards throughout the Manhasset School District. Interactive whiteboards can be used to enhance teaching and learning in all subject areas, ranging from math to music, science to social studies, and latin to language arts.

Interactive whiteboards use specialized computer software to project images from a computer screen onto a large, touch-sensitive surface. The computer is manipulated via the whiteboard using a finger, a pen or other specialized devices. It has become the recognized standard in both private and public schools throughout the country. These boards increase student engagement, motivation and retention of knowledge. In the words of one educator, interactive whiteboards are a “kid magnet.”
